The Cottars Mara Homestead
The Cottar family's home (formerly called BushTops) adjacent to the Maasai Mara National Reserve. A unique homey atmosphere in the original building built by Glen and Pat Cottar, full of artefacts, pictures and furniture of the other important era of safari - the 40's to the 80's.We have re branded this family home in the bush near the Maasai Mara National Reserve to reflect the changes we are doing to it to make it more comfortable, ready by July 2006.
We are planning to add four more cottages to the original facility , and finish the construction of the private rock cottage for a total bed capacity of 20. Additional changes will be to make the former building into a central dining and lounge area with a fireplace, library and upstairs conservatory, with memorobiliia of those other important years of safari for the Cottar family - the 40's to the 80's. We will also add a small but beautiful and hidden swimming pool. Cottars Mara Homestead is ideally located for access to the Mara and its resplendent wildlife, and yet being outside of the restricted area we can do walking safaris and night game drives with spotlights drives.
One of the most impressive things about this homestead is the very active saltlick that attracts wildlife all day and night - many of our guests do not even leave for game drives - they stay right there on the verandah watching the files of giraffe, elephant, plains game go by. Cottars Mara homestead can either be a destination on its own or part of a 'Walk back in Time'. (pics of Bushtops, concept drawings)
